I've posted and deleted this picture off of facebook like 4 times today. I have no idea why. IT FREAKS ME OUT?!!

Obsessed with chocolate cupcakes this week, for some reason?

Cupcakes Marshmallow Frosting 2

Cupcakes Marshmallow Froston 1

These are just regular-style “please be whatever I have in the pantry” chocolate cupcakes. Recipe here. Replaced the oil with yogurt, as per usual because large quantities of oil makes me nauseous.

Cupcakes Marshmallow Frosting 3

Then tonight, I made these crazy, tiny, gluten-free, dairy-free cupcakes that I’m eating too many of. I’m not taking a picture. Deal with it.

They have a weird texture due to the gluten-free flour combo I made, but I really like the blend I made for this recipe! I used:

1/2 c. Tapioca flour
1/2 c. Brown Rice flour
1/4 c. Almond flour
1/2 tsp. Xanthan Gum

It made for a pretty solid cupcake texture! I will definitely use it again.

THAT’S ALL.

I put up my summer playlist over on Broke & Beautiful earlier today. It’s been in the sidebar here for two months, but HEY.

I made a graphic for it, so things are different now.

Summer-Session

Hop over and check it out. If you want.

hi!

I am trying to use my livejournal more, other than auto-posts of my lindsayginn.com stuff because i'm much more awful in real life than I'm allowed to be on my ~schmancy website~ and i feel like people ought to know. so they can laugh and revel in the good choices they've made in their life.

anyhoooooo, this means that i only want people who give a shit to see my awfulness (logic.) so comment here if you want to be added to the elitist filter in which i will release my rambling, picspam and inflated ego onto the world. i think only about 50% of my friends list actually use livejournal anymore, so that's something to consider, but if this filter has all of 4 people on it (2. 1. whatever.) that's a-ok with me. #teamawful!

i've been shit at writing things that aren't a) snarky b) flippant or c) about shoes for a long time and I'd like to get back to writing more frequently so when I'm 50, I can read about all of the dumb things I chose to spend my time doing and think about how i still wish i could hear or control my bladder.

Case in point: do you see the atrocious capitolization flips going on in this post? i'm clearly in need of a tune-up or life-changing massage.

shazam! post over.

Found a random Italian grocery store near Pike Place the other day called DiLaurenti.

DeLaurenti - Seattle Washington

InstaLindsay: :)))))

Obsessed. There will never be enough time for grocery store combing. I could have stayed there for 2 hours, easy.

I ate a megalith hotdog from Japon Dog. It was the Sukiyaki Beef Dog – a 8.5″ beef sausage with Japanese onions, caramelized onions, sukiyaki beef, wasabi mayo and sesame seeds. It was… pretty intense. That’s a lot of beef, know what I mean?

Amazing.

I needed to go up to Whidbey Island for a day in order to pick up a vehicle, so I stopped by my Uncle’s property and they let me forage some crazy-pretty garlic!

Purple Garlic from Ginn Ranch

How awesome is that?! It’s growing like crazy, and they added a new garden patch just recently! It includes Japanese cucumber, butternut squash, onions, buckwheat (!!), a few different types of peppers and tomatoes, and soon-to-be sunflowers. It looks like nothing right now, but soon, it’s going to be in my mouth.

We made banh mi last week, and were too cheap to buy baguettes, so I made some ultra-cheaty ones (aka quicker than ~*artisan~*~ bread) that didn’t taste awful! I’m not hardcore enough to spring for these Vietnamese baguettes because a) lazy b).

They weren’t as crispy as French baguettes, but they got the job done. Recipe here. Crappy photos here:

Cheaty Baguettes

I don’t have any pictures of the banh mi because I ate it immediately, but this is pretty close to the recipe I use.

THAT’S ALL.

Recently, I got the opportunity to crack my knuckles and create a web presence for one of Seattle’s primo performer-producers, Boom Boom L’Roux.

This chick is all business and glamour, so creating a website that would capitalize on those traits (without going over the top into tacky territory) was going to be a fun challenge.

The front page is my favorite page to design. I haven’t built a blog-based website with a blog on the front page in years because I love the “magazine style” format. Why? Because I love comprehensive information. If I can have a biography, photo, upcoming event, and rich content in the same place without it looking cluttered – I’m all about it.

Since Boom Boom is a babe, I decided to put her right up top in a site-wide header featuring her name in a hand-written, ornate font. As a gal who has built her own success from the ground up, I liked the homemade touch with extremely elegant lettering because it fit her journey and represents her experience.

Boom Boom L'Roux: Front Page

There is also an automatic slider that features images of Boom Boom L’Roux from performances and promotional shoots. Below it, a short biography gives new visitors the information they need to know what to expect and how to enjoy the website.

Boom Boom L’Roux’s signature dress is a vibrant purple, I wanted to be sure we included it as a motif throughout the site. As a producer, she delivers a monthly show at the Can Can, appropriately titled Boom Boom L’Roux’s Late Night Revue, and it features some of the top talent from around the city – not to mention the country.

As a woman with many events, I wanted to make sure she had an event calendar that was not only easy to read, but powerful enough to make it quick & easy to add comprehensive event details.

Boom Boom L'Roux: Event Calendar

You can see that she is a mega-saucy gal, so there’s a lot of sensitive content on her website that might not be appropriate for younger web adventurers. This is why we put a cookie-based age verifying function into every entry point on the site, as well as a “remember me” option.

Boom Boom L'Roux: Age Verify Screen

Ms. L’Roux is a pretty busy lady, and between producing events and performing in them, there’s not a lot of free time for regular blog updates. Having a blog is really important for brands because not only do regular updates get search engines excited about your website (thereby pushing it up the list of search results), they also help your fans and followers keep up (and stay interested in) opportunities to support you.

Boom Boom L'Roux: Blog

We put a special focus on automated processes (like auto-posting Instagram photos and auto-sharing to social networks) to make sure that Boom Boom L’Roux’s blog would be updated without taking up her valuable spare time.

 Boom Boom L'Roux: Photo Portfolio

As a performer, Boom Boom L’Roux is her product, so showcasing her photo shoots and performances had to be clearly navigable, and pleasing to the eye. A dynamic photo gallery lets her display many shoots over time, and add new sets directly through the WordPress dashboard.

This was a really fun website to put together, and I was lucky to have such an awesome client that let me have a lot of fun with the project! Thanks to Boom Boom L’Roux for being a great client & beautiful soul!
